What I need to read before “Lost Metal”. Hello fellow Cosmere fans! I was just watching a spoiler free review of “Lost Metal” where the reviewer mentioned I may want to read a bit more of the Cosmere to fully appreciate some aspects of the book. I have read Mistborn 1, 2, (except lost metal) and all of The Stormlight Archive.

Because you know this time around, the strands connecting are much more apparent. For example, some characters in stormlight use idioms referring to colors that seem odd until you have read one of the other cosmere books. SA feels like the main core of cosmere stuff followed by Mistborn Era 2 so in my opinion I would recommend reading them after atleast the earlier cosmere stuff but then again SA is also the best of them of all so it really depends on what you want. Edit: Tress of the Emerald Sea is a nice mid length story but has a lot of cosmere stuff.But I think new readers are unlikely to read Era 2 before Era 1. I think Cosmere stories are at a point where they can be more Cosmere aware without alienating readers because he still has a bunch of Cosmere-light books (and non-Cosmere books), so you should only start getting into more Cosmere-heavy books after being pretty well Cosmere- invested.

Oathbringer is my go to favorite Cosmere book. Simply for the reason that Dalinar is my favorite Cosmere character, and all his backstory is so interesting to me. Sixth of Dusk takes the cake for the Novellas. It was such a fun story and a very interesting planet.

Personally, I like to describe the Cosmere as a fantasy version of the MCU because that is one of the most successful pop-culture icons that people can relate it to, and rightly. They both involve a lot of crossover of more distinct stories and characters, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
